Dream a little dream with me

By Jo Massaro

We all have dreams, some remembered, and some lost. Dreams can be images, emotions, even sensations that occur while we sleep, especially when we are in REM sleep. I’ve discovered my own REM sleep could be better.

In September 2020, I had a dream about children’s authors inspiring young readers. What fun to have them read their book on video and I would post one each day. October seemed like a perfect time, as it was a month for children’s literacy. Even though I felt God had given me the dream, my insecurities grew. What if no one responds to my request? What if I look ridiculous and inadequate to do this? If, if, and if—what would happen?

I said to God, “If this is you, I’ll email an author friend, Michelle Medlock Adams, and ask her what she thought.” Yes, I was asking God for confirmation. As the hours went by, I checked my emails at record speed. While in bed that night, I checked one more time. There was a response, and I was excited but scared to open it. Michelle was so encouraging and said to go for it, and she would take part.

What next? I created a Facebook page and trusted that God would fill it with thirty-one authors who would provide a video and give a copy of their book away each day.

Email after email flooded in, with people responding and suggesting other authors. The days filled up, and it overwhelmed me with thanks for all that God did.

For two years in October, authors continued to pour in and then I felt a desire to do more. Hence, taking the idea and creating a nonprofit working in literacy, focusing on children but including adults as well.

We became a nonprofit in 2021, and since that time, we have been working on the development  of all legal requirements, finding a board, and all the nuts and bolts of this machine. Wow, so many nuts and bolts.

I’m from Upstate New York, and in 1992, my husband and I started a nonprofit working in HIV/AIDS. This ended in 2007 when I was involved in a severe car accident and had a traumatic brain injury (TBI). That’s another story about how God healed me in 2012.

Our website has been a dream for a long time. We are continuing to provide more information on our services and how we desire to make a difference in our world.

We appreciate your time to read more about us and our heart for literacy and creating fun ways to increase literacy skills not just for children but for adults as well.

Thank you for stopping by.
